Being a dental assistant is a good career option. The job prospect of a dental assistant is excellent. At the same time it requires formal education too. There is dental assistant certification program for dental assistant employment. This is called one year program for dental assisting. The program is equivalent to a graduate degree and makes one eligible to enter the world of dental care. In this dental assisting program students learn laboratory works, office duties and procedures and chair side assisting. In addition to it this program offers to teach all the extended duties of a dental assistant such as formal internship, course work in lab and other clinical works. Commission on Dental Accreditation of USA offers this course. To be a certified dental assistant you need to do this course. This commission is approved by American Dental Association. This course is also registered with State Education Department. A graduate is eligible to take the national certification exam. The Dental Assistant National Board sponsors this exam. Moreover there are state sponsored certification exams with little variation in different states. This dental assisting test requires some preparation. The preparation includes good knowledge in high school biology and chemistry. Admission to this program requires high school diploma, transitional study course completed before matriculation. Some other requirements include clearance of existing formalities or problems, meeting health requirements and technical standards of the course. This dental certification program has strict rules. A student can not progress to the next course level until he completes all the lower level courses. The certification program is highly competitive and re-admission in this program is almost impossible. There is a minimum grade a student has to secure to stay in this program. A grade below C makes one ineligible for this program. Re-admission in this program is allowed in extra ordinary circumstances. But in case of such circumstances a student has to speak to the concerned authority. In addition to it, the applicant may have to show documentary evidence in support of emergency claim. Re-admission is allowed only if there is a vacancy available. If a student fails to secure minimum grade after re-admission, he is considered ineligible for the dental assisting certification program. Other to it, a student has to secure minimum C grade to remain in the dental assisting course. He has to secure C or more than C grade and all courses should be prefixed with DAS if the grades are above C. If the grades are just C, all courses should be prefixed with DEN. A student willing to do Hygiene Program may qualify for it, if he has grade C or more than C prefixed with DEN. Licensing a dental assistant is possible only if he has done the dental assistant certification course. This course ensures a better salary for a dental assistant and good future prospect in life also.
